HeartStart FRx 861304 Features
Defibrillation Guidance: The Philips HearStart FRx is equipped with calm, clear voice instructions and flashing icons for maximum ease of use. Press the green “On/Off” button to get started, and then just follow the voice prompts to attach the pads, perform CPR, and deliver a shock if required. The visual icons allow you to follow along even in noisy environments.
CPR Assistance: The FRx is equipped with Life Guidance CPR assistance. Press the blue i-button, and the device will coach you on the optimal number, rate, and depth of chest compressions. When the Infant/Child Key is inserted, Life Guidance provides child-specific CPR coaching.
Cost-Saving Pediatric Functions: The Philips FRx utilizes the innovative Infant/Child key to automatically modify the energy delivery even when adult pads are in use. As the Infant/Child key is good for the life of the AED, this results in significant savings as there is no need to repurchase pediatric pads every two years. As a result, the Philips FRx has one of the lowest overall cost-of-ownership in the industry.
EMS Readiness: When emergency services arrive, simply hand over the FRx pads so that on-scene personnel can complete their treatment and assessment. Because the pads are compatible with other advanced defibrillators, they allow for total continuity of care.
Best for:
- K-12 schools (43+ states legally require AEDs in schools — see AED Laws by State)
- Daycares and youth sports facilities
- Family fitness centers and community recreation
- Places of worship with childcare programs
- Mixed-age public access settings (libraries, community centers)
Not ideal for:
- Adult-only offices on a tight budget (HeartSine 350P at $995 is better fit)
- Gyms where CPR feedback is the priority (ZOLL AED 3 better)
- Clinical/EMS settings needing ECG display (LIFEPAK CR2 better)

James R. — Athletic Director, Denver CO –
We installed this across our four fire stations after our captain\’s wife pushed for community AED deployment. The bystander accessibility was the deciding factor. Voice prompts walk our untrained community members through every step. The IP55 rating means we can leave units in our support vehicles year-round in Texas heat and humidity without performance degradation. We\’ve had two successful bystander deployments before our engines arrived on scene. Both patients survived. That\’s the metric that matters.

We installed three across our high school campus. During monthly drills, even staff with zero medical training deployed it correctly in under 60 seconds. The Infant/Child Key meant we didn’t have to purchase separate pediatric units — a significant cost saving for our district.

Compliance officer recommended the FRx for our 300-person office. We ordered six units, all delivered fast and setup took minutes. Passed our OSHA workplace safety audit with flying colors. The battery status light gives real peace of mind between annual inspections.

Installed in our school last fall. Two drills since then have gone smoothly. Voice prompts are clear and our staff feel ready.

Rugged and reliable. Had it on three outdoor sites through an Arizona summer and it performed perfectly in every drill. The IP55 rating is legitimate — this thing takes punishment. Would prefer a slightly more compact form factor for belt carry but it mounts perfectly.

Solid device. The Infant/Child Key is a great feature for schools with mixed-age students. Worth the premium over generic AEDs.

Pads expired after just 18 months. $80 down the drain. Philips support told me cold storage shortens shelf life but that’s not in the documentation. Disappointing for a $1900 device.

Hi Marcus — really sorry to hear about the premature pad expiry. You’re right that cold storage shortens shelf life and we should be clearer in the listing. We’ve reached out to Philips and will update our product description this week. Please email support@aedbrandreview.com and we’ll arrange a free replacement set.

Solid AED with excellent build quality. The pediatric key feature was the deciding factor for our school district. One star off because the case feels slightly bulky compared to lighter models — but for schools, the step-by-step guided prompts are simply unbeatable.

After a guest medical emergency last year, we upgraded our entire property’s AED program. Selected the FRx for all three buildings. Training our diverse staff was effortless — the device walks everyone through it. Two of our front desk staff are now CPR certified through CPR1.
