Description

What Stop the Bleed training teaches

Severe bleeding can kill in minutes, before an ambulance arrives. This one-hour course teaches the three actions promoted by the national Stop the Bleed campaign: apply direct pressure, pack the wound, and apply a tourniquet. The CPR1 pages also list the use of chest seals. Participants practise on real tourniquets and wound packing supplies during the class, so the skills are physical, not theoretical.

Who should take a Stop the Bleed course

The listing recommends it for teachers and school administrators, security staff, workplace safety teams, coaches and community organisations. It is described as especially relevant for K-12 schools. The class works for people with no medical background. Groups are booked in sizes of up to 10, 12, 15, 20 or 25.

Standalone or add-on

Stop the Bleed can be booked on its own or added to a CPR/AED & First Aid or Fire Extinguisher session on the same day. The CPR1 pages describe it mainly as an add-on. The ABR FAQ says many organisations pair it with CPR training to build a complete emergency programme, and that combined pricing is available on request.

Stop the Bleed certification

Here the pages disagree, so read carefully. The ABR FAQ says participants receive a completion certificate and that CPR1 instructors are trained under the American College of Surgeons Stop the Bleed programme. The CPR1 pages say the class is awareness level and does not result in certification. Ask CPR1 what document, if any, your group will receive before you book.

Who teaches it

CPR1 instructors have fire, EMS and healthcare backgrounds. The listing notes that CPR1’s founder, Anastasios “Tasso” Giannikas, specialises in workplace safety and Stop the Bleed programmes.

Frequently asked questions

What is Stop the Bleed training?

Stop the Bleed is a one-hour course based on the U.S. Department of Homeland Security national awareness campaign. It teaches how to recognise life-threatening bleeding and control it with direct pressure, wound packing and a tourniquet until professional help arrives. CPR1 delivers it onsite for groups of 10 to 25.

Do participants get a Stop the Bleed certificate?

Participants receive a completion certificate. The CPR1 pages say the course is awareness level and does not result in certification. Because the three pages differ, confirm with CPR1 at booking what your group will receive.

Can Stop the Bleed be added to a CPR class?

Yes. All three pages describe it as an add-on to CPR/AED & First Aid or Fire Extinguisher training. It can also be taken as a standalone one-hour class. The ABR FAQ says to contact CPR1 for combined course pricing when booking both on the same day.

How much does Stop the Bleed training cost?

At CPR1 the class costs $200 for up to 10 people and $500 for up to 25, with tiers at 12, 15 and 20 people in between (checked 19 October 2026). The price includes training materials and hands-on practice with tourniquets and wound packing supplies.
