The honest risk. A recertified AED is a used device. The three year minimum warranty is what makes the saving worth taking. Read recertified versus new and how to choose a refurbished AED before you decide.

| Philips | HeartStart OnSite Value Package | $1,581.80 to $1,801.80 | Four case tiers change the price by up to $220 |

Green row is the lowest-cost complete package in the category. AED Leader and Response Ready prices checked 30 September 2026; the dated-stock CR2 figure from other sellers is from 16 September 2026. Package contents differ between sellers, so compare the included list before comparing the number.
The one question that decides it: package premium
Ignore the package price. Look at what it costs above the bare device. That number is the only thing you are actually deciding on.
| Model | Device alone | Cheapest package | Premium | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ZOLL AED Plus | $2,082 | $2,144.70 | $62.70 | Below the price of a cabinet. Buy the package |
| Defibtech Lifeline | $1,478.80 | $1,541.50 | $62.70 | Free accessories. Buy the package |
| HeartSine 350P | $1,411 | $1,463.80 | $52.80 | Below the price of a cabinet. Buy the package |
| Philips OnSite | $1,589 | $1,581.80 | $7.20 cheaper | Buy the package at this tier, not the top tier |
| LIFEPAK CR2 | $2,256 | $2,379.10 | $123.10 | Reasonable. Buy the package |
| ZOLL AED 3 | $2,399 | $2,369.70 | $29.30 cheaper | Reasonable. Buy the package |
| Philips OnSite, top tier | $1,589 | $1,801.80 | $212.80 | Price the components separately first |
A wall cabinet alone typically costs $149 to $499. Any package premium under about $100 is therefore paying for itself on the cabinet alone. Our calculation, from prices checked 30 September 2026.
Which package for your setting
| Setting | Package to buy | Price | Why this one |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small business, indoor | ZOLL AED Plus | $2,144.70 | The lowest ten year running cost of any model, about $330 |
| Tight budget, new unit | Defibtech Lifeline | $1,541.50 | $62.70 package premium and an eight year device warranty, tied with HeartSine for the longest here |
| School or childcare | LIFEPAK CR2 | $2,379.10 | Built-in child mode button, so no pediatric cartridge to buy or replace. 20 states plus DC have school AED laws |
| Outdoor or portable | HeartSine 350P package | $1,463.80 | IP56 rated, the highest here, and the one-SKU Pad-Pak simplifies maintenance |
| Multi-site or fleet | LIFEPAK CR2 or ZOLL AED 3 | $2,379.10 or $2,369.70 | Both report readiness over Wi-Fi, which is what makes fleet management practical |
| Office with mixed ages | ZOLL AED 3 | $2,369.70 | Uni-padz cover adults and children with no separate pad, unlike the AED Plus which needs $155 Pedi-padz every two years |
| Lowest total cost over ten years | Recertified device plus separate accessories | From $875 | A recertified unit is 38 to 58 per cent below new. Buy the cabinet and kit separately and you finish below every package here |
The cost the package price hides
Every package is a one-time number. Every AED is a ten year commitment. Pads and batteries expire on a schedule whether the device is used or not, and consumables are implicated in 46.9 per cent of reported AED failures according to DeLuca et al., Annals of Emergency Medicine 2012, PMID 21872969, from an analysis of 40,787 FDA-reported events.
| Model | Cheapest package | Ten year consumables | Ten year total |
|---|---|---|---|
| HeartSine 350P | $1,463.80 | About $472 | About $1,936 |
| Defibtech Lifeline | $1,541.50 | About $530 | About $2,072 |
| ZOLL AED Plus | $2,144.70 | About $330 | About $2,475 |
| Philips OnSite | $1,581.80 | About $894 | About $2,476 |
| ZOLL AED 3 | $2,369.70 | About $435 | About $2,805 |
| LIFEPAK CR2 | $2,379.10 | Not published per part | Confirm with seller |
Note what this reorders. The ZOLL AED Plus package costs about $563 more than the Philips OnSite package up front, and finishes about level with it over ten years. The full working is in our ten year AED cost breakdown, and you can model your own site with the AED cost calculator.
What is actually in a value package
Contents vary by seller, but across every package we checked these components appear in almost all of them.
- The AED device. Identical to the one sold alone. No seller puts a different device in a package
- Adult pads. One set, already installed or in the case
- Battery. Installed. Service life varies by model, from four to five years
- Carry case. The commonest upgrade tier, and the item that moves the price most
- Wall bracket or cabinet. Alarmed cabinets usually cost extra
- Response or rescue kit. Gloves, shears, razor, towel, barrier mask
- Wall signage or decal. Often a compliance item rather than a nicety
What is almost never included: spare pads, the pediatric cartridge or pediatric pads, an alarmed cabinet, and training. Budget for those separately.
Before you buy: three checks
- Confirm the SKU. On the Defibtech Lifeline, two different builds share one package name and the prices differ by $180.35
- Ask for expiry dates in writing on dated stock. A LIFEPAK CR2 package at $1,692.00 is a real saving only if the pads and battery carry enough remaining life
- Check the prescription and shipping terms. Most AEDs are prescription devices. Several sellers include a free physician’s authorisation and free shipping above $199
Frequently asked questions
It is the same defibrillator sold on its own, bundled with a carry case, a wall bracket or cabinet, a response kit and wall signage. The device inside a package is identical to the device sold separately. What you are buying is the accessories and the convenience of one purchase order.
From $1,463.80 to $2,743.70 on current stock, checked 16 September 2026. The HeartSine Samaritan 350P package is the cheapest at $1,463.80. LIFEPAK CR2 configurations reach $2,743.70 at the top.
Usually, and sometimes literally. The ZOLL AED 3 Value Package at $2,369.70 is $29.30 below the bare device at $2,399, and the ZOLL AED Plus package at $2,144.70 is $62.70 above the bare device at $2,082. Across the category the package premium runs from minus $29.30 to about $213 at AED Leader and Response Ready. Under roughly $100 the package pays for itself on the wall cabinet alone.
For lowest purchase price, the HeartSine Samaritan 350P package at $1,463.80. For lowest ten year running cost, the ZOLL AED Plus, because its consumables run about $330 over ten years against $894 for a Philips OnSite. For schools and childcare, the LIFEPAK CR2, because its built-in child mode removes the pediatric cartridge cost entirely.
Spare pads, pediatric pads or cartridges, alarmed cabinets and training are almost never included. On the Philips OnSite and FRx the pediatric option is a separate prescription-only cartridge, which is a recurring cost the LIFEPAK CR2 and ZOLL AED 3 avoid.
If budget is the deciding factor, yes. Recertified units run from $875 and are 38 to 58 per cent below the new device price, with a three year warranty. Buy the cabinet and response kit separately and the total lands below every new package on this page. The consumable cost is identical either way.
Most do. Only two families are approved for over-the-counter sale in the US: the HeartSine Samaritan 350P and the Philips OnSite in its adult configuration. Everything else, including the FRx, ZOLL, Powerheart G5, LIFEPAK CR2 and Defibtech, is a prescription device. Several sellers include a free physician’s authorisation.
