FDA status

FDA-approved accessory under PMA P160008 (HeartSine samaritan PAD)

OEM Part Number

PAD-PAK-01

✓ Pros

Single cartridge contains both pads and battery, simplifies inventory
Four-year date from manufacture, longer than the two-year pads on most lay-rescuer AEDs
One SKU to order, no need to coordinate separate pad and battery replacements
Tool-free snap-in replacement

✗ Cons

Only fits HeartSine devices, not interchangeable across brands
Combined cartridge cost is higher than standalone pads

The HeartSine samaritan Pad-Pak 01 (Stryker part 11516-000003) is the adult electrode pads and the battery for the HeartSine samaritan PAD 350P, 360P and 450P, sealed in one cartridge with one expiration date. It costs $236 at AED Leader and Response Ready (price checked 19 September 2026), lasts four years from the date of manufacture, and works out at $59.00 a year, about half what a Philips OnSite owner spends on pads and battery over the same period. It fits patients over 8 years old or over 55 lb (25 kg); smaller children need the pink Pediatric-Pak (PAD-PAK-02, $279).

The trade-off is the one HeartSine owners should know before they buy: because pads and battery share a cartridge, a rescue that uses the pads also retires the battery, and a cartridge that expires retires both. There is no way to replace only the pads.

HeartSine Pad-Pak replacement cost: $236 every 4 years

A HeartSine Pad-Pak 01 costs $236 at AED Leader (19 September 2026) and lasts 4 years from manufacture, so the replacement cost is $59 a year. That is the lowest consumable cost of the major AED lines: Philips OnSite pads plus battery run $111.75 a year and Defibtech Lifeline $83.40. The Pad-Pak combines pads and battery in one cartridge, so there is one date to track.

HeartSine Pad-Pak expiration date: 4 years from manufacture

A HeartSine Pad-Pak expires 4 years after its manufacture date, printed on the cartridge label; the AED chirps and flashes when it is due. Replace it on that date or after any rescue, whichever comes first. A new Pad-Pak 01 is $236 at AED Leader (19 September 2026), $59 a year, and swaps in one motion because pads and battery are one cartridge.

HeartSine samaritan Pad-Pak 01: part numbers and fit

The Pad-Pak 01 (HeartSine part PAD-PAK-01, also listed as 11516-000003) fits the samaritan PAD 350P, 360P and 450P. The pediatric version is PAD-PAK-02 ($279); the aviation version is PAD-PAK-07. It contains the adult pads and the 18 V lithium battery rated for more than 60 shocks new.

Pad-Pak 01 compatible AED models

The HeartSine Samaritan Pad Pak 01 cartridge is compatible with the following automated external defibrillators:

This cartridge is designed for patients over 8 years old and over 55 pounds. If you need a child’s model, we also carry the Samaritan Pad-Pak Pediatric Cartridge.

HeartSine Pad-Pak expiration date and when to replace it

HeartSine prints a four-year expiration date (YYYY-MM-DD) on the front of the cartridge, lower right, counted from the date of manufacture, not from the day you install it. A Pad-Pak bought today therefore carries less than four years; ask the seller for the date on the unit they will send. Replace the Pad-Pak on the earliest of three triggers:

  1. The printed expiration date. HeartSine warrants more than 10 shocks at 200 J at the four-year mark, against more than 60 shocks or 6 hours of use when new, so a cartridge is never stronger than the day it left the factory.
  2. After any rescue. The pads are single use; the cartridge comes out with them.
  3. When the status indicator stops flashing green. The samaritan PAD self-tests weekly; a red indicator or the warning chime means the cartridge is missing, expired or low.

How to replace a HeartSine Pad-Pak

  1. Lay the AED face down; the Pad-Pak is the grey block in the base.
  2. Press and hold the tabs on both sides of the installed cartridge and slide it out.
  3. Take the new Pad-Pak from its bag and note the expiration date printed on its front, lower right; write it on the AED inspection tag.
  4. Slide the new cartridge into the chamber, flat side down, until it clicks.
  5. Check that the status indicator flashes green. If it does not, reseat the cartridge.
  6. Keep the spare Pad-Pak in the rear pocket of the carry case, as HeartSine advises, and recycle the old cartridge as a lithium battery.

Pad-Pak replacement cost per year vs separate pads and battery

The honest way to compare consumables is cost per year of coverage, using the seller price and the manufacturer replacement interval. Prices read at AED Leader on 19 September 2026.

AEDConsumables and intervalCost per year
HeartSine samaritan PAD 350P / 360P / 450PPad-Pak 01 $236 every 4 years (pads and battery together)$59.00
Philips HeartStart OnSiteM5071A pads $99 every 2 years plus M5070A battery $249 every 4 years$111.75
Defibtech LifelineDDP-100 pads $75.15 every 2 years plus DBP-1400 battery $229.10 every 5 years$83.40

Over an eight-year device life the HeartSine owner buys two cartridges ($472) against $894 of Philips consumables. The single-cartridge design costs more per pad change than a bare pad set, which is the only case for separate parts: an AED that is used often replaces pads more often than batteries, and a Pad-Pak replaces both each time.
